HASTINGS, Neb. — The McCook High softball and volleyball teams are both taking on raod tests today as fall sports begin with full force across Nebraska.

McCook’s softball girls (0-1 record) are playing a double dual in Hastings today. The Bison battle Class B No. 1 defending state champion Omaha Skutt Catholic in their 4:15 p.m. opening game.

Coach Jason Cochran’s team won’t be intimidated consdiering they played the Skyhawks for a district championship just two years ago. They also meet Skutt last fall at Hastings, the site of Nebraska state softball tournament play next month.

At 6:15 p.m., the Bison are set to meet another Class B big-school Omaha Gross Cougars.

No much later, the McCook High volleyball team makes its season debut at familiar area foe Lexington.

First varsity serve is set for 7 p.m.

The Bison return plenty of experienced talent and try to avenge a home loss vs. Lex in last year’s opener.

It’s only one of many area season openers tonight for volleyball including rivals Hitchcock County and Wauneta-Palisade facing off at Wauneta.

The Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves are hosting a triangular to follow their 29-2, state semifinal season during 2020.

Medicine Valley also debuts at home against Maxwell. The Southwest Roughriders will travel to play Bertrand. Watch for scors and details.
