DC-S Tigers hire new girls' basketball coach

BENKELMAN, Neb. — Dundy County-Stratton school officials have confirmed 2020 Peru State University grad Noah Temme has been hired as the new girls' basketball head coach.

Temme will teach social studies while inheriting the Tigers from Matt Thomas, who took a teaching and coaching position in Holdrege following last season.

A Fillmore Central High School grad, Temme played basketball and ran cross country for those Panthers before continuing his running career with the Peru State Bobcats.

Temme told McCook radio voice Seth Baumert last week that he has volunteer assisted high school, junior high and youth basketball programs. However, DC-S will be his first head coaching experience.

"I wanted to do extra duties, thinking maybe I'd have an assistant coaching job," Temme sad. "They gave me the reigns of the program."

Tempe added his first main goal is "improving the girls that we have."

The Tigers certainly know basketball as they most recently reached state title games in 2017 and 2019 under Thomas' guidance.

Despite some injuries, they went 13-10 last season en route to another district final.

The Gazette hopes to include comments from DC-S about hiring new coach Temme in an upcoming edition.

Watch for more details.
