8-10 year sentence in killing
McCOOK, Neb. — Lavetta C. Langdon was sentenced to 8-10 years in jail Monday after pleading no-contest to a reduced charge of manslaughter in the shooting death of her husband.
Langdon, 80, told police she shot her sleeping husband after he hit her, after what she said was 30 years of abuse.
She was originally charged with first-degree murder but accepted a plea of no contest to manslaughter.
A charge of use of a firearm to commit a felony was dismissed.
Court documents indicate she warned her husband, Larry Langdon, 79, that she would kill him if he ever hit her again.
After he struck her during an argument about money on Aug. 20, 2020, she said she considered killing him for 30 minutes, then shot him in the chest while he was sleeping, according to an affidavit.
She then called the police.
