ATWOOD, Kan. - After a year hiatus, the McCook summer swim team kicked off its 2021 season with a meet in Atwood, Kan., on Saturday, returning with handfuls of ribbons for the top finishes.

Swimmers were able to swim in three individual events, plus an individual exhibition event (no scoring or ribbon) and two relay events.

Those earning first place in all three of their individual scoring events included Abby Renner, Abi Nielsen, Cole Davidson and Jackson Blomstedt. McCook swimmers who ended the day with two first-place finishes and a second-place in their third event were Aaron Spencer, Amanda Kinne, Amelia Clark, Emma Graff, Ethan Graff and co-coach Kerrigan Burns.

Aiden Renner and co-coach Elizabeth Barenberg both finished first in their two events.

And all but one of the age-based relay McCook teams finished their events in first place. Complete results are available on the Plains Tsunami Swim League website.

The McCook swim team is part of the Plains Tsunami Swim League, which encompasses central and southwest Nebraska, northwest Kansas and northeast Colorado.

The league is open to all ages, from those who are just mastering the strokes to masters divisions or the over 20-crowd.

McCook hosts its next meet on Saturday at the McCook YMCA with four area towns bringing their summer swimmers to town.

The season includes meets over the next few weeks, but wraps up with a qualifying meet at the McCook City Pool on Saturday, July 10, which will bring 300-400 people to McCook.

The league wraps up with a championship meet in McCook for the first time in recent memory. The championship meet will be Saturday, July 17 at the McCook City Pool, with 1,200-1,500 people expected to part of the event, either as a swimmer, spectator or staff.
