DANBURY, Neb. —Nadene Lafferty, 98, a longtime resident of Danbury, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Oberlin, Kan.

She was born on July 7, 1922, in McCook, Neb., to Nathaniel and Adda (Miller) Welsh. She graduated from Decatur County High School in 1942. Nadene attended normal schooling and taught at Star Valley for one year.

On June 19, 1943, Nadene was united in marriage to Virgil S. Lafferty in McCook. The couple’s parents stood up as their witnesses. The family made Danbury their home and they farmed in Red Willow and Decatur counties. Nadene and Virgil moved to McCook in 2001.

Nadene was a member of Prairie Chapel Methodist Church and later Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed square dancing and time spent with family and friends. Nadene took joy in raising chickens, sewing, caring for her garden, and canning.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil in 2006; infant son, Alva; and brother, Loren Welsh.

Survivors include her sons, Dean (Sandra) Lafferty of Salina, Kansas, Albert (Jody) Lafferty of Weatherford, Texas, Rodney (Beverly) Lafferty of Boise, Idaho, and Galen (Jackie) Lafferty of Danbury; grandchildren, Jason (Nisa) Lafferty, Ryan (Tara) Lafferty, Rebecca (Chad) Cooke, Kristina (Ricky) Rhine, Kim (Tony) Armstrong, Kathy (Sani) Messenger, and Michelle (David) Haslam; great-grandchildren, Prestyn (Bryce) Davis, Mickenzie Rhine, Macie Little, Jordan Little, Brooklyn Cooke, Rawlings Cooke, Carson Lafferty, Hayden Lafferty, Quentin Lafferty, Keith Messenger, Kirk Messenger, Peyton Lafferty, Tyson Lafferty, Nadine Armstrong, Lillie Adams, and Chayse Haslam; great-great-grandchildren, Cooper Davis and Emery Davis.

Visitation with family present will be Sunday afternoon, May, 9, 2021, from 3-5 p.m., at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday morning, May 10, 2021, at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Monday afternoon, May 10, 2021, at the Danbury-Marion Cemetery.
