BROKEN BOW, Neb. — They’re so “bad” not even the ultimate Mother whose last name is Nature could slow McCook girls on Friday.

The Bison girls splashed, dashed, hurdled and threw through 10 teams to a dominant Broken Bow Invitational championship.

They nearly doubled top contender Gothenburg, 114-62, while Holdrege and Scottsbluff’s combined team total would have lost to McCook during this latest nasty oh-so-good team victory.

“The weather was some of the worst we have competed in through all my years in McCook,” Bison coach Brent May remarked. “But the times and marks were outstanding. We scored a lot of points and that’s a credit to how the ladies handle adversity.”

Sophomore Shawna Wilkinson showed all ladies and gentlemen how to run through the yuck.

Wilkinson won another 200-meter dash — where she owns Class B’s fastest time — while also posting her career-best 400 meters (1:00.87) which won that race.

“ Shawna is a tough competitor how always strives for the best,” May remarked. “ She has continued to receive awards including at the Broken Bow meet MVP and the Kent McCloughan award.”

McCloughan’s a Broken Bow High alum who went on to play for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders after stellar success with coach Bob Devaney’s Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Junior Sierra Kotschwar continues delivering her own impressive power. She not only won both discus and shot put throws but also reached McCook High’s all-time Top 10 girls’ shot put chart.

Kotschwar’s 38’9 3/4” was her latest career-best mark.

“Our top 10 in all events is pretty elite, so anytime we have an athlete get on them it is a huge accomplishment,” May confirmed.

Go ahead and put sophomore Samantha Rodewald high among the Bison’s historic best.

Her 3200-meter time of 12:03.52 ranks No. 5 all-time while claiming another Bow title on Friday.

“Sammy ran her personal best in terrible weather,” the coach confirmed.

Rodewald added another title as part of the 3200-meter relay with Izzy Renner, Grace Cappel and Sienna Dutton.

Junior Emma Dutton joined freshman sister sienna, junior Ainsley Taylor and Wilkinson in winning the 1600-relay.

Complete Bison girls results were posted on mccookgazette.com Monday. They also appear in today's Gazette.
