Bison tennis girls rule top of Lex JV tourney

McCook’s Richa Patel maintained great focus throughout her 6-0 No. 1 singles performance at the Lexington JV Tennis Invitational on Thursday.

LEXINGTON, Neb. — Richa Patel roared through six No. 1 singles opponents while Hayden Johnson teamed with Carley Peters to go 6-0 at No. 2 doubles during the Lexington JV Tennis Invitational on Thursday.

The three champions helped McCook win a tie-breaker over Class A Kearney which determined this tournament’s team champions.

Both McCook and Kearney scored 88 points.

Patel swept four foes, 6-0, and lost only four games all day in her six matches.

Johnson and Peters trounced four foes, but battled past host Lex 6-4 to go with a thrilling 7-6 (8-6) victory over those Kearney Bearcats.

Team scores: 1. McCook 88, 2. Kearney 88, 3. North Platte 47, 4. Ogallala 44, 5. Lexington “A” 35, 6. Lexington “B” 24, 7. Kearney Catholic 7.

No. 1 singles: Richa Patel went 6-0 to win the championship. She scored 6-0 wins over Kearney Catholic, Kearney, Lexington A and Lexington B; 6-2 over North Platte and Ogallala.

No. 1 doubles: Hayden Johnson and Carley Peters went 6-0 to win the championship. They scored 6-0 wins over North Platte and Kearney Catholic; 6-1 over Ogallala and Lexington B; 6-4 over Lexington A and 7-6 (8-6) over Kearney.

No. 1 singles: Emily Alberts went 5-1 to earn second place. She won 6-0 over Kearney Catholic, North Platte, Ogallala, Lexington A and Lexington B; lost 7-5 to Kearney.

No. 2 doubles: Abbie Johnson and Carsyn Craig went 5-1 for second place. They won 6-0 over Kearney Catholic, North Platte, Ogallala and Lexington B; 6-1 over Lexington and lost 6-4 to Kearney.

No. 3 doubles: Laci Stewart and Kori Kelsin went 5-1 for second place. They won 6-0 over North Platte and Kearney Catholic; 6-1 over Ogallala, Lexington A and Lexington B; lost 6-3 to Kearney. Watch for results all season.
