Region re-works MCC schedules because of weather
Because of adverse weather and softball teams postponing games because of health concerns related to COVID-19, a new Region IX schedule has been drafted for the remainder of the season.
McCook Community College, 9-3 on the season, had four games postponed March 6-7 in Lamar at what was supposed to have been a round-robin, three-day weekend with all seven teams playing six games each, but after playing Friday games, the 12 remaining games of the tournament were postponed for health reasons. Weather wiped out the entire Region IX schedule this past weekend.
After going 1-1 the opening weekend of Region IX games in Lamar, the Lady Indians' revised Region IX schedule now calls for 24 more conference games including four games each against Lamar, Trinidad State, Luna Community College, Otero Junior College, Western Nebraska and Northeast Community College.
MCC will play home weekends March 27-28 against Trinidad State; April 2-3 against Luna, and April 30-May 1 with Northeastern Junior College. Saturday doubleheaders will start at 11 a.m. and Sunday games start at 1 p.m.
The Lady Indians will play three region, four-game series on the road starting this weekend at Lamar Saturday and Sunday, then at La Junta, Colo. April 10-11 against Otero; and April 24-25 at Scottsbluff against Western Nebraska.
Trinidad State and NJC top the standings at 2-0, MCC and Western Nebraska are both 1-1, Lamar and Otero are both 0-2 and Luna (Las Vegas, N.M.) has yet to play any games this season.
MCC's Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference schedule is now set to begin Thursday in Columbus against Central Community College. MCC will also travel to North Platte on April 28. Home NCCAC doubleheaders begin March 31 against North Platte in the annual Purple Out Games for Epilepsy awareness. The Lady Indians host Southeast on April 15. In addition to making up the March 14 postponed doubleheader at Southeast Community College, the April 23 home match with Central Community College will need to be rescheduled, according to Coach Kevin Kaalberg.
