Broncos blast Trojans out of playoff chase
AMHERST, Neb. — Senior Brady Lewis’ playoff basket was a final highlight for the Cambridge Trojans during their 76-43 subdistrict finals loss to powerhouse Amherst Thursday night.
The Broncos are now 23-2 entering a Class C-2 district finals showdown against Chase County. A date, start time and site were still being determined this morning.
Amherst built a 36-15 halftime lead which reached about 30 points through three periods.
However, junior Dahlton Wood did deliver a strong 21-point performance while leading the Trojans. They finished with an 8-16 record this season.
Kyle Borland and Cole Fiene added eight points apiece for head coach Clayton Shepard’s first Trojan team.
Junior Derek Trompke totaled four points besides those final two from Lewis.
Despite the Trojans’ tough evening, Southern Valley and Medicine Valley joined Chase County as Gazette-area subdistrict champions Thursday.
All three knocked off No. 1 subdistrict seeds on their home courts.
