LINCOLN, Neb. — Besides subdistrict titles, a power points formula on nsaahome.org decides the 16 basketball teams in each class who will play district finals which determine state tournament spots next week.

Currently among Gazette-area teams, Southern Valley (17-4 record) holds ninth among Class D-1 teams and Medicine Valley (14-8) ranks No. 11 in D-2 entering their subdistrict title games Thursday evening.

Here's a look at all area teams:

Class B

The McCook Bison are only three spots from those Top 16, but finished an 11-13 regular season with Monday's last-second playoff loss to Hastings.

Hastings, Sidney and Omaha Roncalli are among five wildcard teams ahead of McCook entering this week.

Class C-2

Chase County (15-8) would rather beat Hershey Thursday night and advance as a subdistrict champ.

However, the Longhorns were 13th entering playoffs so they could win one of those wildcard spots.

Dundy County-Stratton (17-6) was 16th yet likely drops out following the loss to Chase Tuesday evening.

Hitchcock County (17-7) was 19th and fell short 51-42 against No. 4 Hershey Tuesday.

Cambridge (9-15) must knock off No. 7 Amherst (22-2) Thursday night for any district finals chance.

Arapahoe (8-15) was seven spots below Cambridge before losing to the Trojans Tuesday night.

Class D-1

The Southern Valley Eagles could avenge last year's subdistrict finals loss vs. Elm Creek (15-5) Thursday night. Those Buffaloes are currently two spots below S.V. at No. 11.

Last year's D-1 state runner-ups don't have a lot of elbow room since several teams are barely a point behind Southern Valley. Defending state champ Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (13th), Mead (14th), Deshler (16th) and Johnson-Brock 19th) also play subdistrict finals on Thursday.

Despite a solid 16-9 record, Maywood-Hayes Center's season finished its 46-45 loss to Maxwell Tuesday night. The Wolves were 26th among D-1 teams based on quality wins starting this week.

Class D-2

Medicine Valley's holding one spot below Wallace (17-4) and those teams tangle Thursday night at Wallace. The loser could drop out of those top 16.

Wallace won a 62-50 contest with the Raiders on Jan. 5.
