Bison wrestle to a pair of SWC championships

VALENTINE, Neb. — McCook seniors Talyn Campbell and Class B No. 1-ranked Alec Langan won Southwest Conference championships as the Bison wrestlers finished sixth overall in Saturday's power-packed pool of eight teams.

Campbell scored a pin, major decision and 8-4 finals win over Ogallala's Logan Stephens while raising his record to 24-6 this season at 120 pounds.

Langan's 30-1 and ranked No. 1 at 220. He no prisoners with two consecutive pins starting the SWC tourney.

He then took down Class B No. 4 Keifer Anderson of Broken Bow (31-8 record) during a dominating 9-2 finals decision.

Freshman Cadde Beeby joined senior heavyweight Reid Steinbeck in also reaching SWC title matches. Senior Tate Felber scored more points when he won a consolation championship at 152.

Overall, McCook totaled 89 points with Class B No. 5 Broken Bow scoring 173 to edge Ogallala's 170 for top team honors. The Minden Whippets (125), host Valentine Badgers (103) completed those first four.

Cozad eged McCook by a half-point to earn top five. Gothenburg's 73 points placed seventh and Ainsworth settled in eighth (15 points). More will appear in Tuesday's McCook Gazette.
