McCOOK, Neb. —Mary Louise (Affleck) Osterman, age 95, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at Community Hospital in McCook, Neb., surrounded by family.
Mary was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., to William and Clara (Sylvano) Affleck. The family moved to Ogallala, Neb., where she met her future husband, Harry. They were married Nov. 17, 1951, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala.
To this union four children were born: Claralynn, Steve, Jeff and Nancy.
In 1966, the family moved to McCook. Mary worked at JC Penneys for over 30 years both in Ogallala and McCook. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and St. Teresa’s Circle. She was one of many ladies to start St. Pat’s Bargain Bazaar. She also helped with Meals on Wheels. Mary was a member of the VFW Auxilary. She helped with her children’s activities and was a scout leader and 4-H leader. Mary enjoyed all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. She was known for her cooking and baking. Her family loved her famous chocolate chip cookies. Mary was loved by all and never thought twice with helping others.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; brother, William; sisters; Dorthe Jensen, Emily Wlaschin and infant sister, Clara; sisters-in-law, Marie Affleck, Bev Paulsen and Bev Osterman; brothers-in-law, Jim Wlaschin, Richard Paulsen, Roscoe Osterman and Merv Jensen.
Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Claralynn (Stan) Wudtke of McCook, Steve Osterman, Lincoln, Neb., Jeff (Kathy) Osterman of Indianola, Neb., and Nancy (Brian) Harris of McCook; 11 grandchildren, Stacy (Craven) Carvalo, Kristy Osterman, Ben Howard, Bryce Osterman, Sam Osterman, Jessica Harris, Jennifer Harris, Rico Quezada, Jana Harris, Alan Hammer, Courtney Wudtke, Caitlyn Wudtke and Cody Wudtke; great-grandchildren, Craven Jr. Carvalo, Kyan Carvalo, Korbin Blake, Kacen Blake, Dominiq Quezada, Ava Quezada, Reece Quezada and a great-granddaughter due in April. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
Recitation of the Rosary will follow visitation on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, beginning at 7 p.m., also at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, McCook, with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, McCook.
