Warrior duo join Falcon and Longhorn as invite champs

A roundup of recent wrestling tournaments which included Gazette-area varsity teams:

Hi-Line at Elwood

ELWOOD, Neb. — Arapahoe’s Jordan Smith (170 pounds) and heavyweight Levi Kerner won championships as the Warriors placed fifth among 14 teams.

Chase County finished fourth with three finalists. Conner Bryner took home a title at 160 for Wauneta-Palisade.

160 pounds — Conner Bryner, W-P, won the title as he pinned N. Redwine, H-L, in :11; pinned G. Roberson, GC, in 2:39; pinned Rex Fell, DC-S, in :46; and pinned finalist Brice Vitosh, CC, in :26.

170 — Jordan Smith, ARAP, won the title as he pinned J. Kohl, H-L, in 4:41; won 15-6 over Josh Gage, MV; and won 5-3 over finalist T. Kirch, GC.

285 — Levi Kerner, ARAP, won the title as he pinned Keithen Huntley, CAM, in :33; pinned A. Meyer, Perkins County, in 2:20; and pinned finalist K. Stubbs, MAS, in 4:34.

113 — Cayden White, CC, placed second as he pinned K. Hernandez, Lex JV, in 3:32; pinned Corbin Carpenter, ARAP, in 1:13; and was pinned by finalist C. Padmos, S-E-M, in 2:30.

160 — Brice Vitosh, CC, placed second as he pinned Harley Gray, MV, in :24; won 9-2 over Cooper Dillan, CC; and was pinned by finalist Conner Bryner, W-P, in :26.

182 — Kaden Cole, MV, placed second as he pinned A. Nichols, S-E-M, in 1:38; pinned D. Miller, GC, in 3:20; and was pinned by finalist C. Shutz, H-L, in 1:03.

195 — Bobby Evans, CAM, placed second as he pinned Cody Holmes, W-P, in :34; pinned C. Stanczyk, GC, in 5:56; and lost 5-4 to finalist G. White, SUTH.

220 — Jaret Peterson, CC, placed second as he pinned Julien Grindle, CAM, in 3:22; won 3-2 over B. Knowles, Perkins County; and was pinned by finalist L. Howitt, MAX, in 1:58.

113 — Karson Klumpe, CAM, placed third as he pinned F. Walsh, Lex JV, in 1:24; was pinned by C. Padmos, S-E-M, in :50; pinned Hernandez in 1:44; and pinned Corbin Carpenter, ARAP, in :47.

145 — Tristan White, ARAP, placed third as he won 12-0 over Kenyan Biesecker, CC; lost 11-6 to K. Pagel, MAX; pinned T. Jorges, H-L, in 2:20; and won no contest over Biesecker.

160 — Rex Fell, DC-S, placed third as he won 7-5 over C. Messersmith, MAX; was pinned by C. Bryner, W-P, in :46; pinned N. Redwine, H-L, in :36; and pinned G. Roberson, GC, in :43.

Mullen Invite

Kaleb Christofferson won the 120-pound championship to lead Hitchcock County at this tournament last weekend.

Christofferson finished 4-1 in the round-robin format where pinned Zach Parker (2:00) and Corbin Swanson (3:23) of Ainsworth; won 9-1 over Bridgeport’s Chase McGrath and 11-0 over Sandhills Valley’s Branden Powell. His lone defeat was 4-3 to Brock Burry from Bayard.

Falcon teammate Blake Devitt finished second at 113 while Keegan Schuler (182) and Anthony Christofferson both placed third.

Garden County Tri

OSHKOSH, Neb. — Chase County split two duals in its season opener at Garden County last week.

The Longhorns beat Bridgeport, 43-34, with Dawson Mollendor scoring a pin (5:54) at 182 pounds, Jaret Peterson an 11-0 decsion at 220 and Cayden White taking a tough 10-8 match at 113
