Broncos set up rematch with Wolves today at 3
WAUNETA, Neb. — The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos will get another shot at unbeaten Maywood-Hayes Center after sweeping two RPAC matches Monday night.
W-P (15-7 record) won two sets from the Wolves (23-0) before M-HC rallied for a five-set victory earlier this season. It was easily the toughest of 23 Wolves matches this season.
They’ll meet again in the 3 p.m. RPAC semifinal at Southwest High School in Bartley.
The Broncos beat Dundy County-Stratton 25-17, 25-12-25-11 on Monday then defeated Hitchcock County 25-18, 25-7, 25-18.
Meanwhile, Maywood-Hayes Center earned a bye before taking apart Paxton 25-10, 25-10, 25-9.
Senior Jaycee Widener’s 14 kills featured 19 for 19 hitting.
Sophomores Olivia Hansen served four aces with three each from Lexi Wood and Ashlin Broz. They teamed to serve 54 for 55.
Broz delivered 20 assists with classimate Kiley Hetjmanek distributing nine.
“We played the net really well and served tough,” coach Kory Rohde said while mentioning Widener recorded her 1,000th career kill.
“Which is pretty impressive considering Jaycee played setter her freshman year,” he added.
In RPAC East action Monday night, the top seed Bertrand Vikings advanced where they’ll take on Alma Cardinals at 4:30 p.m.
The third-place match follows at 6 p.m. and chamionship will be played tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Alma needed five sets to advance past the Cambridge Trojans (13-7 record), who won that first set 25-14 and fourth, 25-17.
The Cardinals prevailed 15-7 in set five.
Cambridge swept its opening match on Monday over Arapahoe 25-21, 25-15, 25-17.
Junoir Hope Kollar drilled 10 kills for the 4-16 Warriors with another eight from sophomore Emerson Swanson.
Freshman Berkeley Warner hustled to 13 digs.
No Cambridge individual stats were obtained before deadline.
