ARAPAHOE, Neb. — Donald Ewald Wendland, age 80, of Arapahoe, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Neb.

He was born to Ewald and Lillian Wendland on Oct. 22, 1939, on the family farm northwest of Arapahoe in Gosper County.

He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, north of Arapahoe. He was a lifetime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe. He graduated from Arapahoe High School with the Class of 1958. He married Carol Jean VonLoh on Sept. 17, 1960 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood, Neb. To this union, three children were born: Donna, Deb, and Marlin.

He worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads for 40 years before retiring. His pride and joy were his farm and cows. He spent his whole life in Arapahoe.

Don and Carol enjoyed gardening together and you never had to ask Don twice for help as he was always willing to help anyone that needed it.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law; sister, Malinda Beck and her husband, Ron Beck; niece, Lorna Beck; and his brother-in-law, LeRoy VonLoh.

He leaves many happy memories behind with his family and children: wife, Carol; daughter, Donna and husband, Steve Liebsack; daughter, Deb Wendland and family; son, Marlin and wife, Kristi Wendland and daughters, Makayla and Rochelle; sister, Norma and husband, Martin Petermann; sister, Gladys and husband, Bill Sandman; brother, Alvin and wife, Carol Wendland; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of life will be at a later date. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe is in charge of the arrangements.
