TRENTON, Neb. — Jerilyn Jean Cole passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at the home of her sisters in Trenton, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 61 years old.

Jerilyn was born on May 14, 1958, at St. Catherine’s of Sienna Hospital in McCook to parents, Joseph Nealeigh and Virginia (Thomas) Cole. The family moved to Denver in 1960, where Jerilyn attended school. In 1982, the family returned to the Trenton community.

Jerilyn was united in marriage to Patrick Barry in Denver, Colo. To this union a daughter, Patricia “Trish,” was born.

Jerilyn was an over-the-road trucker for numerous years. She was able to see the country and visit relatives in many states. She worked for the Dundy County-Stratton Elementary School as a librarian until her health would not allow her to work. She loved working with “her kids.”

Jerilyn loved spending time with her family and friends. Her true joy was her numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Her passion in life was camping, anywhere, anytime. She was always prepared to go on a moment’s notice.

Jerilyn was an inspiration to us all, she battled her cancer with grace, dignity and her unfailing sense of humor. Her faith and infectious smile will leave a legacy for those that were with her through her illness.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph Cole and Virginia Cole Scarbrough; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Those surviving include her daughter, Patricia “Trisha” and husband, Shawn Cordsen, of Parker, Colo.; step-father, Gary Scarbrough of Trenton; three brothers, Joseph (Jill) Cole of Trenton, James (Zulema) Cole of Enid, Okla., and Jonathon Cole of Trenton; two sisters, Jan Cole and Joleen Reeder, both of Trenton; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given to​ ​Community Hospital Hospice, McCook, NE.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, 11 a.m., at the Church of God in Trenton with Dave Davidson officiating. A private family inurnment will be held in the Cornell Cemetery at a later time.
