McCook's two titles top the 52-team MAC Attack

McCOOK, Neb. — A field of 52 teams played 78 games in one day during Saturday’s 29th annual Mac Attack youth basketball tournament.

The 10 division champions featured teams from nine communities.

Only host McCook earned two championships as the Indians won 5th-grade boys and Bison went unbeaten among 6th-grade “B” boys.

The Indians thrived thanks to defense allowing only 14.3 points per game.

Meanwhile, no team scored more than the McCook Bison who totaled 66, 62 and 60 points for an average victory marge of 32.3.

The closest division was clearly 6th-grade “A” boys where three teams all finished 2-1. North Platte St. Pat’s Irish split a pair of one-point games.

How all teams placed in the 10 divisions:

4th Grade Boys

Champion: Chase County (3-0 record)

Second place: North Platte Pride (2-1), 3. Norton, Kan., (1-2); 4. Hitchcock County Falcons (0-3).

Chase County won 24-17 over Norton, 24-19 over North Platte Pride and 32-6 over Hitchcock County Falcons. Closest game: Norton 11, Hitchcock 9.

4th-5th Grade Girls

Champion: Phillipsburg, Kan., Panthers (3-0 record)

Second place: McCook Slammers (1-2), 3. Hitchcock County (2-1), 4. Lady Jays (2-1), 5. Colby, Kan., (1-2), 6. DCS (0-3).

Phillipsburg won 30-8 over McCook Slammers, 40-6 over Lady Jays and 46-6 over McCook Slammers. Closest games: McCook Slammers 8, Colby 6; Colby 13, Hitchcock County 7.

5th Grade Boys “A”

Champion: Hershey Panthers (3-0 record).

Second place: Lexington Lightning (2-1), 3. McCook Red Hawks (1-2), 4. Cheylin, Kan., Cougars (0-3).

Hershey Panthers won 39-30 over Lexington Lightning, 39-20 over McCook Red Hawks and 53-13 over Cheylin Cougars. Closest games: Hershey 39, Lexington 30; McCook Red Hawks 35, Cheylin 23.

5th Grade Boys “B”

Champion: McCook Indians (3-0 record)

Second place: North Platte Black (2-1), 3. Phillipsburg, Kan., Panthers (2-1); 4. Hitchcock County 5th (1-2), 4. DCS Tigers (1-2), 6. North Platte Pride Gold (0-3).

McCook Indians won 31-7 over North Platte Gold, 24-15 over Hitchcock County 5th and 28-21 over North Platte Pride Black. Closest games: North Pride Black 17, DCS Tigers 16; Phillipsburg 18, DCS Tigers 15.

6th Grade Boys “A”

Champion: Rawlins County, Kan. (2-1 record).

Second place: North Platte St. Pat’s Irish (2-1), 3. HC Falcons (2-1), Paxton Tigers (0-3).

Rawlins County lost 29-28 to North Platte St. Pat’s Irish, won 42-34 over HC Falcons and won 28-18 over Paxton Tigers. Closest games: North Platte SP Irish 29, Rawlins County 28; HC Falcons 44, North Platte St. Pat’s Irish 43.

6th-Grade

Boys “B”

Champion: McCook Bison (3-0 record).

Second place: DCS Tigers (1-2), NP Pride (1-2) and Phillipsburg Panthers (1-2).

McCook Bison won 66-6 over NP Pride, 62-55 over DCS Tigers and 60-32 over Phillipsburg Panthers. Closest game: Phillipsburg 29, NP Pride 23.

6th Grade Boys “C”

Champion: Perkins County (3-0 record).

Second place: Imperial (2-1), 3. Arapahoe Warriors (1-2) and Norton (0-3).

Perkins County won 25-8 over Norton, 41-24 over Imperial and 40-21 over Arapahoe Warriors. Closest games: Arapahoe Warriors 15, Norton 10; Imperial 18, Arapahoe Warriors 12.

6th/7th

Grade Girls

Champion: Colby, Kan. (3-0 record).

Second place: Stampede (2-1), 3. McCook Stampede (1-2), 4. Mercury Rising (0-3).

Colby won 39-16 over Stampede, won 33-10 over McCook Stampede and 47-14 over Mercury Rising. Closest games: Stampede 32, Mercury Rising 18; McCook Stampede 35, Mercury Rising 20.

7th/8th Grade Boys

Champion: DCS Tigers (2-0 record).

Second place: North Platte Pride (2-1), 3. Maywood-Hayes Center (2-1), 4. Perkins County (1-2), 4. McCook Renegades (1-2), 6. Maxwell (0-3).

DCS Tigers won 42-32 over Maywood-Hayes Center, 35-24 over McCook Renegades and 41-32 over North Platte Pride. Closest game: Perkins County 43, McCook Renegades 34.

7th-8th Grade Girls

Champion: CNBA West (3-0 record). Second place: TurBow (2-1), 3. North Platte Thunder (1-2), 4. Southwest Nebraska Hot Shots (0-3).

CNBA won 34-21 over Southwest Nebraska Hot Shots; 43-23 over TurBow and 64-14 over North Platte Thunder. Closest games: TurBow 20, S.W. Hot Shots 15; TurBow 22, North Platte Thunder 17.
