What a treat

I’m reminded of the method of succession in case of loss of our U.S. President. First in line is the Vice President and we saw that happen when President J. F. Kennedy was assassinated and Vice President L. B. Johnson was then sworn in. Then in a later era the Vice President slot was vacant so when President Nixon resigned due impending impeachment and removal from office the role of President was given to Gerald Ford Speaker of the House.
Now in today’s politics Speaker Nancy Pelosi manipulated the impeachment of President Donald Trump with the dream that the Senate would remove him from office. The next step would be to impeach Vice President Pence, easy to do with the precedent set by the impeachment of Trump and voila Nancy Pelosi would be President. What a treat! It kind of makes one shiver to think about it.
On the world stage there is an Israeli columnist, Caroline Glick that I always try to read. Caroline was educated in the U.S. and has a good handle on the politics of this country as well as on her own Israel. Her latest column speaks to how President Jimmy Carter signed on to the fiction that it was a student uprising forty years ago that took over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran starting an uprising that then asked Ayatollah Khomeini to take over the reins of the Iranian government. Writer Glick states that the whole mess was a planned coup and could have been handled much better.
Glick also writes that it was President Carter, not exactly Jewish State friendly, who labeled the Israeli takeover of Judea, Samara and then Gaza following the six Day War as an illegal “occupation” of Palestinian lands. Carter then attributed that “occupation” of Palestinian lands as the cause of the endless unrest in the Middle East.
Now right before our eyes we see President Trump explode those two myths and be truthful about how those two events have been causing turmoil in the Middle East for forty years and counting. Our U.S. Embassy in Israel is now moved to the Capitol in Jerusalem and the Iranian Regime has come to understand that they are responsible for the turmoil their proxies are causing. In my opinion it is a good start and it will be interesting to watch how the future of both Iran and Israel plays out. Stay tuned.
Those of you who read this column by the traditional print paper may not be aware that there is an open forum where internet readers can respond to my remarks. On occasion the editor prints some of those comments for the print readers. Recently a person, nameless, took me to task for calling Former Vice President Biden “fumbling Joe”. Oh my so disrespectful. Yet this same commentator consistently writes President Trump’s name lower case “trump”. Then he goes on to write how bad our President is with his habit of name calling and on and on.
Another writer comments on abortion and there is a long harangue about that subject which this writer has no memory of ever having mentioned. I take no offense, it is kind of fun to read and I just shake my head. People!
In years gone past I used to kid my mother about the number of funerals that she attended. At my age now I have a bit more understanding as it seems that it is my long term friends that are departing and it is only proper to attend the ceremonies of remembrance. Dignified and proper it is interesting to observe that only the good deeds of the departed are illuminated. The foibles, weak traits and bad actions (yes we all have them) are not mentioned. Yes that is one of the lessons that Christ taught in his time on earth, look to your fellow man with love and encourage him/her to do good unto others. Now if we can just mold our daily interactions with all those we meet life would be even better from day to day. I’m working on it.
That is how I saw it.
