Falcons, Tigers reach high places at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Neb. — A quartet of area wrestlers earned high places during the Garden County Invitational last weekend.

Hitchcock County placed sixth among 21 teams competing with 82 points. Sedgwick County, Colo. won the team title (123 points) in a close race over Mitchell (117), Sutherland (101), Perkins County (98) and Hemingford (93).

Hitchcock’s Kaleb Christofferson led the Gazette area when he placed second at 113 pounds while scoring 20 points.

Christofferson (12-7) scored two first-period pins before losing the final to 17-1 Marco Martinez of Sedgwick County.

Falcon teammate Remington Hodges won the heavyweight consolation title when he pinned Perkins County’s Austin Meyer in 2:26.

Hodges (19-5 record) finished with three straight pins overall to shake off an early-rouind defeat to Stephen Bateman of Kimball.

Kolyn Gaston (12-9 at 126), Keegan Shuler (21-6 at 160) and Drake Mues at 182 all finished fourth for the Falcons.

Dundy County-Stratton earned 10th place after totaling 54 points.

Junior Serbando Diaz (145) and fellow Tiger Delton Haines (220) won consolation titles.

Diaz delivered four pins to lead the Tigers capped by a 32-second finishing of 15-6 Gideon Heaton from Hyannis.

Diaz’s lone loss was 8-4 in the semifinals to 5-1 Jake Chasek of Mitchell.

Haines scored three pins capped by a 2:07 win over Gavin Anderson from the Hyannis Longhorns.

Blake Webb added a fourth-place finish to the Tiges’ top performances on Saturday. He scored 13 points with two pins.

Wauneta-Palisade totaled 17 points featuring four each from Koltar Rahn (170) and Cody Holmes (182).

Holmes, Rahn, Ethan Carl (160) and Hunter Miner (132) all scored pins during the invite.
