Bison host volleyball eight-team invite Saturday

McCOOK, Neb. — A lively field featuring five Gazette-area schools should make an entertaining Bison Volleyball Invtational on Saturday.

“I would say the tournament is wide open,” McCook coach Audrey Feeney confirmed.

The Bison can avenge last year’s opening loss to Valentine as these teams meet again in an 11 a.m. opening match.

Cambridge and Chase County both own 5-3 records with the Trojans earning early state Top 10 recognition in their class.

Class B Alliance has won the Bison Invite before. The Bulldogs battle an improved Southwest Roungrider squad in their tourney opener.

Decatur Community and Northern Valley represent southern neighbor Kansas again.

The complete Bison Invite schedule:

SATURDAY

Match 1: McCook vs. Valentine, 11 a.m. at McCook High School; Match 2: Cambridge vs. Decatur Community, 11 a.m. at McCook Junior High.

Match 3: Southwest vs. Alliance, 20 minutes after Match 1 finishes at MHS; Match 4: Chase County vs. Northern Valley, 20 minutes after Match 2 finishes at MJH.

Match 5: Winners of 1 and 2, 1 p.m. at MHS; Match 6: Winners of 3 and 4, 15 minutes after Match 5 finishes at MHS.

Match 7: Losers of 1 and 2, 1 p.m. at MJH; Match 8: Losers of 3 and 4, 15 minutes after Match 7 finishes at MJH.

Match 9: Third place, 30 minutes after Match 7 at MHS; Match 10: Seventh place, 30 minutes after Match 8 at MJH. Match 11: Consolation final, 15 minutes after Match 10 at MJH; Match 12: Championship, 15 minutes after Match 9 at MHS.
