MCC golf team gets second at Torrington
TORRINGTON, Wyo. – The McCook Community College golf team improved by one stroke Friday but could not make up enough ground to overtake the host school Eastern Wyoming. The Lancers shot a 296 Friday to win the two-day tournament with a 589. MCC posted a 304 Friday to finish second with a 609.
The back-to-back tournament wins gives the Lancers 20 points in the season-long team standings. MCC is second with 14 points and Lamar Community College is third with 10 points. The Lopes shot a 666 to finish third Friday.
“We battled today and are close to putting together something very good,” MCC Coach Tyler Loop said.
Eric Stevens of Eastern Wyoming won individual honors with a 143 – two better than teammates Max Maynard Max and Jo Vin Tan, three better than teammate Lucas Howell and five better than teammate Tomas Kubata.
MCC sophomore transfer Kyle Zimbelman (North Platte) was the top “non-Lancer” to make the standings board. He shot a 73 Friday to finish in sixth place with a two-day 150.
Sophomore KC Carlson (Delta, Colo.) finished in a seventh-place tie with back-to-back rounds of 76 to finish at 152. Sophomore Trevor Oberg (McCook) and Deniz Sari (Koblenz, Germany) both shot 154s to finish in an 11th-place tie. Sophomore Chesney Tatman had a 155 to finish 13th.
Competing as individuals, freshman Dillon Wise, (Kimball) shot a 153, freshman Kojie Santos (Melbourne, Australia) had a 163 and Harrison Parker (Windsor, Colo.) had a 184.
The Region IX field comes to Heritage Hills Thursday and Friday.
