Herding pigs?

Herding pigs is about as easy as the proverbial "herdin' cats," but 4-H'ers give it their best. Red Willow County swine showmen competed before livestock judge Kensey Freeman of Aurora at the county fair in McCook on a cool morning Thursday. Freeman kept a close eye on senior showmen Kara Oltmer, Bailey Oltmer, Ethan Spencer, Delaney Critchfield and Tori Honn, and also visited with intermediate showman, Jack Siegfried. Trying to find a "forward button" on the side of his pig, junior showman Dylan Cornwell coaxed his animal across the show ring. Freeman told competitors, "As far as maintaining eye contact with a judge, I could care less if you've got a big smile on your face or not, or whether you're super intense. It's your own personal style." The beef show started at 9 a.m. today. A fair schedule is found on pages 10, 11 and 12 of the Monday edition of the McCook Gazette.
