Trojans capture second title of week at Arapahoe
ARAPAHOE, Neb. — Cambridge High’s boys scored 122 points to run away with the Jim Mather Track-Field Invitational title on Tuesday.
The Trojans finished far ahead of Loomis (73) and Bertrand (69).
Southern Valley finished fourth with 57 points and Arapahoe earned seventh, scoring 34.
A look at area champs or highest placers in each event:
100 meters: Southern Valley’s Clayton Berry finished first (11.3 seconds) by edging Bertrand’s Ethan Klingenberg (11.5).
200: Cambride’s Clayton Sayer was second at 23.7 behind champ Zacob Evans of Elwood (23.1).
400: Zack Sickels (53.9) and Kyle Eubanks (54.3) were top three finishers behind Evans (53.4).
800: Sickels was second at 2:09.5 behind Tyler Ferguson of North Platte (2:07.7).
1600: Sickels won the race in 5:06.8) and Trojan teammate Zion Moyer took second at 5:14.4.
3200: Derek Trompke placed second at 11:10.6, barely behind Elm Creek’s Brandon Nuhfer at 11:10.4.
110-hurdles: Berry of SV won a great close race, finishing in 15.4 seconds ahead of Loomis’ Isaac Wahls (15.5).
300 hurdles: Southern Valley’s Jaden Quinn finished first (42.6) just beyond Arapahoe’s Conner Luke (43.0).
Relays: Arapahoe won the 400-meter sprint race while Cambridge captured 1600 and 3200 titles. Individual names were not obtained before deadline today.
High jump: Southern Valley’s Pete Brown finished fourth though he reached the same height of 5’8” that champion Carson Orcutt from Loomis reached.
Pole vault: Brown finished fifht at 11’6.
Long jump: Berry won his third title of the day, reaching 19’2 1/2” ahead of top contenders like Cambridge’s Quintin Shaner, who was third at 19’ 1/4”.
Triple jump: Shaner was second at 40’5 1/2” behind Sidney Gruwell of Wilcox-Hildreth (41’7”).
Shot put: Cambridge’s Kyle Borland captured third place reaching 42’3 3/4” with Loomis’ Isaac Dunn winnin the title at 45’7 1/2”.
Discus: Cambridge’s Lucas tenBensel captured third at 130’9” and Borland finished fourth (127’1”). Loomis’ Joshua Marcy was first at 163’11”.
Most of these same area teams will be competing again next week and watch for results in the Gazette as this season hits its home stretch.
