SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — Konor Rakes ripped an opening three through the nets and McCook teammate DJ Gross powered inside to an early 5-2 lead Friday night.

However, the surging Scottsbluff Bearcats soon took charge while scoring a 76-52 home win Friday night.

The Scottsbluff Star-Herald offered more information about Friday’s contest.

Scottsbluff would go on to hit four triples in the opening period to go ahead 18-7.

The Bearcats kept the momentum going in the second when Dawson Mohr hit two from beyond the arc to help Scottsbluff cruise ahead 41-18 until McCook’s Gabe Sehnert hit a trey as time expired in the first half to cut Scottsbluff’s lead down to 42-21.

McCook would get as close as 16 points in the third quarter, but Scottsbluff never allowed the Bison to gain any more momentum.

“We’ve come out pretty hot lately and I was happy to see us extend and maintain that lead in the second quarter,” Gullion said. “We didn’t play as well in the third, but we were still able to maintain the lead.”

Eight Bearcats added to the scoreboard in the fourth quarter to give the cap off the lopsided win.

McCOOK (52) — Gabe Sehnert 16 points, DJ Gross 10, Wade Burkert 9, James Mockry 8, Konor Rakes 5, Seth Dugger 4.

SCOTTSBLUFF (76) — Jasiya DeOllos scored 18 points to lead the Bearcats while Dawson Mohr added 17.

The Bison (8-10) will host their final regular-season game against Cozad.

District pairings will then be set as boys’ post-season tournament play starts next week.
