Runnin' Lopes shake loose from Indians

LAMAR, Colo. – Lamar Community College handed the McCook Community College men an 83-75 loss Friday night, thanks to a hot-shooting second half.

The Indians held a 34-32 lead at the half but were out-scored 51-41 in the final 20 minutes.

Lamar’s Brevin Brimble led all scorers with 27 points.

The Lopes made 16 of 23 field goal attempts in the second half (69.6 percent) and 57.1 percent overall.

Those second half totals included a five-for-seven showing from the 3-point line. For the game the Runnin’ Lopes shot 44.4 percent on 18 shots from distance. From the line, Lamar connected on 13 of 14 second-half free throws (92.9 percent) and 18 of 22 for the game (81.1 percent).

Freshman Miles Black (Jonesboro, Ga.) led MCC in scoring with 20 points.

Sophomore Peanut Cunningham (Louisville, Kent.) scored 19 and freshman Mardrez McBride (Augusta, Ga.), scored 13.

MCC shot 54 percent from the field, 30 percent from the 3-point line (six of 20), and 78.9 percent from the free throw line making 15 of 19 shots.

MCC was out-rebounded 27-20. Lamar was credited with two turnovers for the game and the Indians seven.

The Indians were 9-12 and 2-4 in South Sub-Region IX.

Now the Indians hope to take advantage of six straight home games starting Tuesday against Western Nebraska; Friday, Feb. 8 against Northeastern Junior College; Feb. 10 against Southeast Community College; Feb. 11 against Central Community College; Feb. 15 against Trinidad State; and Feb. 16 against Otero Junior College. The final home game of the season is Feb. 23 against Lamar Community College.
