SV Eagles fight off Whippets

STAMFORD, Neb. — Southen Valley’s boys shook off a rough two-point third quarter and still beat Minden, 57-53, Thursday night.

Trailing 40-39, the Eagles promptly regained their shooting touch and rallied for this win.

Sophomore Clayton Berry was sharpest with five of eight field goals (63 percent) leading to his team-high 15 points.

Classmate Carter Bose followed closely with 14 on five-for-10 and junior Jaden Quinn added 13.

Bose was even more impressive on the boards, pulling down 13 rebounds to total an opening double-double. He had five of those on the offensive end.

Berry also buried four of four free throws which helped Southern Valley overcame just 56 percent overall (14 for 25) at the foul line.

Quinn and Berry collected seven rebounds each.

Sophomore Brady Yant added seven points while juniors Beau Baily and Draden Best tallied three apiece.

Senior Brant Grove — the lone senior in Southern Valley’s varsity rotation — hit his only shot for two points in the win.

Whippet lights up Eagles with 35

STAMFORD, Neb. — Sophomore Sarah Hultquist scored 35 points to make the difference in Minden’s 48-34 win over the Southern Valley girls Thursday evening.

Hultquist hit 70 percent of her shots, makign 16 of 23 from the floor. Southern Valley slipped to 0-1 under new coach Richard McDonald.
