Warriors, M.V. Raiders finish in playoffs

HEMINGFORD, Neb. — Long road trips didn’t lead to friendly playoff welcomes for the Arapahoe Warriors or Medicine Valley Raiders on Thursday.

Hemingford hit the Warriors with a 30-point first quarter en route to its 60-14 triumph in the D-1 state playoff opener.

Justin Davis was dynamite with touchdowns of 65, three, 52 and 40 yards during that opening period.

Arapahoe’s Carson Schroeder dashed 50 yards to a TD, but the Warriors already trailed 30-6.

Schroeder threw a 12-yard scoring pass to junior Yordi Gutierrez.

However, Davis scored three more times in his fabulous seven-TD playoff performance. He rushed for 303 of Hemingford’s 469 total yards.

The Bobcats improved to 6-3 while Arapahoe’s season ended at 5-4.

Schroeder’s 73 yards on nine carries led the Warrior attack. He completed five of 14 passes for 80 yards with Gutierrez gaining 76 on four grabs.

Senior Gentry Anderson added 56 yards on 17 rushes though well-contained against the tough Bobcats defense.

Gutierrez’s 10 total tackles topped the Arapahoe defense while Branigan Schaben made 7.5, Schroeder five, Nolan Meyers 3 1/2 and another 3 1/2 from Levi Karner.

The Bobcats advance into D-1 second-round action on Halloween.

Garden County 50,

Medicine Valley 8

OSHKOSH, Neb. — There would be no repeats of Medicine Valley’s 46-30 victory a few weeks ago.

Garden County (7-2) built a 22-0 halftime lead and tacked on another 20 third-quarter points.

The Raiders (5-4 final record) didn’t score until Kaden Bonini completed a one-yard TD pass to Justin Bailey.

Quade Potter caught Bonini’s two-point pass following that score, but Medicine Valley drew no closer than 30-8.

Garden County moves on to the D-1 Sweet 16 while Med Valley won’t match last year’s run into the state semifinals.

Sam Heapy’s 100 rush yards on 21 carries highlighted the Raider attack.

Bonini stepped in at quarterback and completed six of 15 passes for 46 yards.

Garden County romped despite just 256 total yards to Med Valley’s 176. The Raiders did lose three crucial turnovers.
