Wolves fight off Raiders in tri finale
CURTIS, Neb. — The Brady Eagles brought trouble to Tuesday’s triangular, but Maywood Hayes-Center did finish strong with a win over Medicine Valley.
The Wolves (12-8 record) took charge behind 10 kills from Jaycee Widener and Avery Johnson in a 25-21, 25-16 victory.
They were equally tenacious with a combined five ace blocks. Johnson stuffed three while Widener sent another two past the Raiders’ defense.
Junior setter Karlie Gerlach kept the Wolves’ attack moving by delivering 15 assists.
Paige Wood served 11 points with Maci Sorge adding another eight. Both Wolves served an ace.
MH-C recovered quickly from a tough 25-23, 25-18 opening loss to triangular champion Brady.
No fewer than five Wolves made at least one stuck block on Eagle hitters: Widener, Johnson, Wood, Gerlach and 5’4” junior Jaycee Lapp.
Lapp served seven points, Widener ripped eight kills and Gerlach tallied nine assists.
However, the Brady Eagles held on to their 16th win this season (16-4).
Medicine Valley (4-12) dropped a 25-14, 25-11 match to the Eagles in Tuesday’s first match.
