ALMA, Neb. — Trailing 2-0 before their first swings didn’t stop the Southern Valley-Alma Saints from scoring a 6-2 softball win over Blue Hill Tuesday afternoon.

PJ Dubbs drove home two runs, Grace Harris ripped two big hits and Kynlee Marquez struck out 13 in the Saints’ 13th win (13-6 record) this season.

Southern Valley-Alma broke a 2-2 tie with two runs during each of its last two at-bats. It was the final game before district tournament play begins for all Nebraska softball teams on Friday.

Harris, Abby Cervera and Emma Joppa each drove home another SV-Alma run.

Dubbs matched Harris’ team-high two hits while Cervera, Marquez and Joppa added one apiece.

Emma Taylor displayed her baserunning skills while scoring twice to pace the Saints.

Nakayla Hock, Kaylee Baker, Harris and Kortnie Lennemann scored one run each.

Marquez only walked three Bobcats to go with her 13 strikeouts. She surrendered four hits until Cervera entered the “circle” and recorded one out for a save.

District pairings and other details will appear in the Gazette later this week.
