Trojans trounce Homecoming visitors

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Paxton Ross and Spencer Rice teamed for five touchdowns in the Cambridge Trojans’ 46-14 Homecoming win over Bayard Friday night.

The Trojans (1-1 record) built a 30-7 halftime lead while continuing their excellent offensive start. They reached 40 points in a 46-40 tough loss at Ravenna one week earlier.

Ross tossed a one-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Eubanks which started the Homecoming fun Friday night.

Bayard did draw even, 7-7, only to see a Rice one-yard TD run start 23 unanswered Trojan points.

Ross raced 35 yards for the next score befoer connecting again on a 16-yard strike to Dereyk Huxoll.

Cambridge added a pair of two-point conversions for the 30-7 halftime margin.

Bayard (1-2) briefly closed within 30-14, but Rice ran eight yards and Ross’ pass to Preston Carbaugh made it 38-14.

Carbaugh’s 21-yard interception return of a Jack Kildow pass finished the Trojan victory.

Falcons win again

GRANT, Neb. — An awesome 22-0 fourth quarter broke the 38-38 tie in Hitchcock County’s 60-38 win over Perkins County Friday evening.

Unfortunately, no individual stats were obtained as the Falcons (2-1) earned their second straight win since a 30-16 opening loss against Wauneta-Palisade.

The Falcons overcame a 232-yard rushing effort and three touchdowns from Perkins’ Alex Patrick. They only permitted the home team to complete two passes.

Broncos stop

Warriors

ARAPAHOE, Neb. — A 15-0 fourth quarter helped the Amherst Broncos break away to their 37-14 win over Arapahoe Friday night.

Senior Carson Schroeder (23 yards) and Colton Hearn (47) ran to Warrior touchdowns.

Junior Yordi Gutierrez also caught a two-point pass from quarterback Gentry Anderson that kept Arapahoe within 22-14.

However, the Broncos added two huge fourth-quarter TDs.

“We kicked off to start the game and forced a punt on the first drive,” Arapahoe coach Dustin Kronhofman commented. “We had a mental error on the return and roughed the kicker to give them a first down and the Broncos went down to score. Amherst played very aggressive on defense and were sending multiple blitzers every play and we did not do a good job of communication on the line and allowed defenders to run in free all night and we could not get anything going on offense.”

Anderson’s 10 total tackles topped the Warrior defense while Branigan Schaben assisted on 11 stops.

’Riders fall short

KIMBALL, Neb. — Southwest took the long road trip and stayed even until an 18-0 second half secured Kimball’s 24-6 victory.

Southwest slipped to 0-2 on the young season.

Cozad edges ’Horns

IMPERIAL, Neb. — Chase County held a 14-13 lead until Cozad’s fourth-quarter touchdown allowed he Haymakers to prevail 19-14.

Host Eagles win

WOOD RIVER, Neb. — The trend of strong fourth quarters continued for Wood River in a 53-20 win over visiting Southern Valley Friday night.

SV Eagles (1-2 record) were within striking range at 27-12 until a 26-7 Wood River final period.

Buffaloes win

ATWOOD, Kan. — Rawlins County outscored Quinter, 50-44, to even its season record at 1-1 Friday night.
