All the champs from great Bison tennis camp

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Bison summer tennis session came to a close on Tuesday.
The camp participants learned fundamentals, scoring, and court strategy.
They also had the opportunity to join the match play league, as campers were divided into two divisions, with four teams in each division.
All participants were drafted intto teams by age, ability and playing experience, to compete in singles and doubles play.
This summer’s award winners included;
Delaney Jumps advanced girls division singles champion,
Zion Moyer, advanced boys division singles champion;
Delaney Jumps and Angel Pfannenstiel advanced girls division doubles champions;
Zion Moyer and Isaac Hinze, advanced boys division doubles champions;
Brooklynn Gillen ,beginner girls division singles champion;
Joel Miller and Nathaniel Miller. beginner boys division singles champions.
The summer camp, along with league play continues to be a valuable tool for enhancing the success of all players who participated from the Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas region. Building friendships and improving overall tennis knowledge and skills needed to become a successful player, while growing the sport of tennis throughout our regions of Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas.
Director Matt Wiemers thanks each camp participant and their families for their support and help in making the summer program a success.
“Over the past 19 years, we continue to see a growing interest and need for the summer tennis session and I am pleased to provide the camp and league each summer. It continues to be a huge part of our tennis programs success and offers a great opportunity for all levels of players to improve their skills and work on proper technique.”
The Bison tennis camp was started in 2000 by current MHS tennis coach Wiemers and assistant coach Greg Larson with 12 participants.
This summer, the camp saw over 100 participants attend camp.
“We are very excited about the growing interest of tennis in southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas,” Wiemers concluded.
“This summer drew camp participants from McCook, North Platte, Ogallala, Benkelman, Cambridge, Oberlin, Culbertson and Indianola. The camp and league is open to all ages and playing levels.
