Many area all-stars meet in Minden

MINDEN, Neb. — More than 120 top athletes including several from McCook and other Gazette-area towns are scheduled to compete in this weekend’s West All-Star Classic.

Volleyball takes center stage today with a four-team tournament.

McCook’s Brantleigh Morgan, Jaden Bryant and JoAnn Neel are part of the Southwest-Lou Platte Conference 5 p.m. showdown in Minden High School.

Meanwhile, the RPAC will take on Fort Kearny Conference top talent at C.L. Jones Middle School.

Faith Simpson from Wauneta-Palisade, Southern Valley’s Cassi Bose, Dawson Latta of Dundy County-Stratton and Maywood-Hayes Center’s Sydney Mullen-Shaw have all been selected for the RPAC team.

Winnners will play the championship match at Minden High following semifinal play. A consolation match takes place in C.L. Jones Middle School.

On Saturday, basketball becomes the big show at high noon.

The round-robin format begins when Southwest Conference and Lou Platte Conference girls meet in Minden High. Bryant, Bailey Honn and Emily Arp will represent McCook.

The SWC boys follow with McCook coach Jeremy Yilk helping direct a team which includes Bison alums Hunter Potthoff and Clayton Stevens.

Following that game will be a RPAC-Fort Kearny doubleheader.

The girls’ team features many area players: Hitchcock County’s Jasmine Youngquist, Maywood-Hayes Center’s Grace Koubek and Mullen-Shaw; Simpson, Cambridge’s KateLynn Benson, Arapahoe’s Alayna Whipple, Medicine Valley’s Rachel Lashley and Bose.

RPAC boys will bring Southwest’s Derek Greenlee, Arapahoe’s Jacob Pruitt and Spencer Watson; Med Valley’s Joseph Chancellor and Ryan Klintworth; Southern Valley’s Chaston Burgeson and Cash Yearous from Wauneta-Palisade.
