Chase County sweeps C-9 District titles

SUTHERLAND, Neb. -- Chase County swept its way to the boys and girls team titles at Thursday's C-9 District Meet in Sutherland.

The Longhorn boys nearly doubled second-place Mitchell (143 to 76), while the two-time defending Class C girls state champion Lady Longhorns beat out Mitchell by a 147-118 margin.

In all, Chase County had 21 athletes qualify for next week's Nebraska Track and Field Championships in Omaha.

The Longhorns won 16 events at Thursday's meet, including nine on the girls' side.

Champions included Peyton Fiedler in pole vault (10-04), 100m hurdles (16.2) and 300m hurdles (48.18), Allison Owings in shot put (36-10), Andrea Page in discus (127-07), Adelaide Maxwell in the 200m (26.34), Mallie McNair in the 400m (59.00) and the 4x100 (51.83) and 4x800 relay teams (10:12.74).

On the boys side, Chase County gold medalists included Aaron Hinojosa in shot put (49-10.5), Jack Bauerle in discus (153-02), Kadin Vrbas in the 100m (11.17), Will Kuenne in the one mile (4:43.86) and two mile (10:22.86) and the 4x400 (3:30.54) and 4x800 (8:36.81) relay teams.
