SIDNEY, Neb. -- Even with the target on their back, Chase County wasn’t fazed.

The annual South Platte Valley Association Track Meet, once again, turned into a Chase County showcase, as the Longhorn boys and girls swept the team titles during Saturday’s invite at Sidney.

This came after Chase County performed the same feat one year earlier in Hershey.

The Lady Longhorns won by a 160-128 margin over runner-up North Platte St. Patrick’s, thanks in large part to 10 gold medal entries.

In the field events, Allison Owings did the double by winning both shot put and discus. Her marks of 40 feet, 5.5 inches in the shot put and 128 feet in discus were personal bests. Also winning gold was Peyton Fiedler in pole vault with a mark of 9-06.

Running events, however, would be where the Lady Longhorns did most of their damage. All three relay teams earned gold, while sophomore Mallie McNair also won the 400m and 800m runs. Adelaide Maxwell took first in the 200m dash, while Fiedler won the 100m hurdles to round out Lady Longhorn winners.

On the boys’ side, Chase County had six gold medalists to beat out runner-up Perkins County 135-84.

The Longhorn throwing trio of Jack Bauerle, Evan Fisher and Eli Hinojosa put in top-five performances in both shot put and discus to highlight the Longhorns’ field events. Bauerle won both events, while Fisher and Hinojosa finished third and fourth, respectively, in each. Bauerle’s discus toss of 150 feet, 4 inches was a personal best.

In the running events, Will Kuenne picked up two gold medals in the one-mile and two-mile runs, while the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also took first place.

Chase County will be back in action at Tuesday’s Best of the Midwest Invitational, which will be held in Sutherland.
