Trojan, Raiders win Southwest golf titles
CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Junior Preston Carbaugh felt right at home in rival Southwest’s Invitational as he shot 70 to win the tourney championship Thursday afternoon.
Southwest hosted its tourney on Cross Creek Golf Course — which also happens to be Cambridge’s home turf.
Carbaugh captured a district title at home last year, and his 70 on Thursday bested Medicnine Valley senior Joseph Chancellor by seven strokes.
Chancellor edged Dundy County-Stratton senior Nate Auffet (78), who took third just ahead of two more Raider golfers: Sid Schultz (fourth, 79) and Sheldon Johnsen (fifth, 83).
Hitchcock County’s Drian Hutton (sixth, 85) and Southwest Roughrider Denver Holdcroft (seventh, 86) joined a top 10 filled with Gazette-area golfers.
Romey Grier joined DC-S teammate Auffet, placing eighth (89). Cambridge’s Cameron Hagedorn was ninth (92) and Southwest’s Caleb Shald 10th (94).
Medicine Valley won the team title. More results appear next week.
