MHC girls third at Paxton

PAXTON, Neb. -- The Maywood-Hayes Center Lady Wolves finished third at Tuesday’s Paxton Invite.
MHC scored 68 points to take bronze. Only runner-up Anselmo-Merna (70 points) and champion Mullen (132) posted better scores.
The Lady Wolves did not win an event, but had a number of top-5 finishes.
In the running events, Jaycee Widener placed fourth in the 100-meter and 200-meter races. She was also part of the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams that finished second.
Jayden Widener had a second place finish in the 400-meter run and also ran in MHC’s 4x400 relay. Earlier in the day, she added a third-place finish in the long jump.
Kayla Minary had third-place finishes in the one-mile and two-mile races and also ran in those successful 4x400 and 4x800 relay squads.
Other scorers included Jaycee Lapp in the 800-meter (sixth place) and two mile (sixth), Avery Johnson in the 100-meter hurdles (fifth) and 300-meter hurdles (fifth) and Karlie Gerlach in the one-mile (fifth).
In the field events, Abbie Brott was third in discus with a toss of 88-1 and Ashton Erickson placed fourth in pole vault with a mark of 6-0.
In the boys’ competition, MHC finished seventh as a team with 30 points.
The Wolves’ Luis Fuentes won the two-mile run with a time of 11:56.19 to highlight MHC’s day.
Other scorers included Parker Johnston and Tate Hartley in the one-mile, Logal Littrel in the two-mile, Johnston in the 110-meter hurdles and the 4x800 relay team that finished fourth.
Daniel Doyle was MHC’s lone medalist in the field events with his fourth place finish in discus.
