Carbaugh wins Alma Invite; Eagles top Gazette team

ALMA, Neb. -- Cambridge junior Preston Carbaugh rallied in the second round to win Tuesday’s Alma golf invitational.

Carbaugh scored a 78 (37-41) on the day. After a round-best 37 in the opening nine, he shot a 41 to edge out Franklin’s Ryan Weiss for the title by one stroke. Weiss shot a 40 in the first round and a 39 in the second to finish with a 79.

Cambridge’s other medalist was Cameron Hagedorn, who placed 11th with a 96 (47-49). Additional Trojan scores included Brandon Horwart with a 126 and Ethan Sides with a 128.

As a team, Cambridge finished fourth with a 428 score.

Fellow Gazette school Southern Valley placed second as a team with a 368. The Eagles had all five of its golfers medal, including Ryder Lewis, Spencer Brown and Riley Mustin who all finished in the top 10 individually.

Arapahoe finished eighth as a team and was led by Ty Cord Frink’s 15th place score of 102.

Franklin won the team title with a 366.
