McCook swimmers celebrate final awards
McCOOK, Neb. — While the McCook YMCA winter swim team wrapped up its season at the 2018 Nebraska YMCA State Championship meet last monthin Fremont, the season unofficially came to end Saturday with the year-end party at the YMCA.
Coach Keagan Blau distributed dozens of medals and ribbons from the final meet of the season to the swimmers who placed in the top 16.
With the help of assistant coaches Lynn Kinne and Jennifer Rodewald, nearly every swimmer improved their personal best time in at least one event at the championship meet.
The season began last September with practices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the winter.
The swimmers attended one swim meet a month at YMCAs across Nebraska before ending the season at the Dillon Family Aquatic Center in Fremont on March 10.
The swim team is open to any YMCA member, who is able to swim at least the length of the pool without assistance. The season runs from September through March.

Next up for the swim team is the summer swim league, which begins at the end of May.
The swim team will begin practices at the YMCA before moving outside.
