Raiders rule Knights, Falcons split
CURTIS, Neb. — Medicine Valley’s girls started fast and finished strong for a 52-34 win over Eustis-Farnam Tuesday evening.
The Raiders (3-8) were rolling through a 16-8 first quarter — only to see those visiting Knights nearly keep pace through those next 16 minutes.
However, the fourth quarter belonged to Medicine Valley again by a 17-9 final count.
No fewer than nine Raiders hit shots with senior Rachel Lashley netting a team-high 12 points.
The balance was brilliant: senior Haylee Evans, junior Alex Ellermier and freshman Acelyn Klein each scored eight.
Ellermeier shot a Raider-best 57 percent, or four for seven from two-point range.
Freshman Jessa Bailey’s five points topped remaining Raiders Hope Stone (four), Sabra Schmidt (three), Hannah Schultz (two) and Sydney Veldhuizen (two).
Evans delivered nine assists to keep the Raiders’ offense rolling.
Klein grabbed eight rebounds and Schultz snagged seven.
Eustis-Farnam fell to 0-14 on the season despite freshman Maggie Walker hitting all three of her shots.
Falcons split
TRENTON, Neb. — A 17-2 first quarter left no doubt that Hitchcock County’s girls would defeat Paxton, 49-25, Tuesday night.
Sophomore Kass Kisker’s 12 points paced the 11-4 Falcons followed by junior Kyleigh Scott (eight), senior Jasmine Youngquist (seven) and junior Lydia Hagan (seven).
Hagan hit the Falcons’ one three-pointer.
Junior Amanda Horinek showed Hitchcock power as she pulled down six offensive rebounds and blocked two Paxton shots.
The Paxton boys did get some payback during a 63-28 victory Tuesday night.
Sophomore Darian Hutto did score 15 points to lead Hitchcock boys (3-11 record).
Freshman Dionte Perkins’ nine rebounds and two blocked shots from junior James O’Byrne were other highlights.
