MCC women lose by 10
The McCook Community College Lady Indians lost to Northeast Junior College Saturday 86-76 in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
The Lady Plainswomen outscored MCC 26-16 in the second quarter on the strength of hot 3-point shooting and the Lady Indians were unable to overcome the 44-34 halftime lead.
“I’ve got to give credit to NJC, they came into this game not hitting their 3s very well and they came in and hit a ton,” MCC coach Kellen Fernetti said.
Colby Cox, Wauneta-Palisade, led all MCC scorers with 20 points. Aliyah Foote, Lawrenceville, Ga. Had 18. Sam Hinkle, Rifle, Colo., added 10 and Brook Jamison, Hyannis, had nine points.
MCC made 11 of 22 shots from the 3-point line, made half of the team’s 46 shots from the field and 19 of 26 free throws (76 percent).
“Offensively it’s nice to see us in the 70s for these last couple games,” Fernetti said. “We just weren’t able to make enough runs.”
