LINCOLN, Neb. — Lonnie Ray Karre passed away Dec. 14, 2017, after a long battle with various health conditions.

Lonnie was born to Bill and LaVerne Karre of Hayes County, Neb., in 1946. Growing up, he loved driving tractors and working with his dad on the farm. Some of his best memories include working in Lincoln County, where his mother would send them prepared campfire food.
Lonnie graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1965. After graduation, he went on to complete business school in Grand Island. He went on to work for New Holland until he was called to work for Uncle Sam where he served in the Vietnam Conflict.
He married Lora Koker to which his son, Kevin, was born. In 1986, he married Sue Meckel and became stepfather to Adam and Bonnie.
One of the highlights of his life was getting to ride with Kevin on the U.S.S. Nimitz, where they sailed from Florida to Virginia.
Lonnie and Sue eventually relocated to Lincoln, where he proudly worked for Cabela's. In 2016, Cabela's honored him with a Bronze Star presented by Gov. Pete Rickets and General Richard Dahlman.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin and parents, Bill and LaVerne.
He is survived by his wife, Sue of Lincoln; step-children, Adam and family of Omaha and Bonnie and family of Lincoln; brother, Gordon and Chuck Hoppe of Arizona; sister, Kathy and husband, John Mabile of McCook, Neb.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorials may be sent Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home, in care of Sue Karre, 4040 A Street, Lincoln, Ne 68510. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at Lincoln Berean Church (6400 S. 70' Street, Lincoln, Ne 68516) at 2:30 p.m.
The burial will be at Fort McPherson Cemetery on Wednesday Dec. 20, 2017, at 3 p.m.
