Sgt. Maj. Dean Reicks

McCOOK, Neb. — A former McCook High School wrestling coach will be the featured speaker as the McCook American Legion Post 203 conducts 2017 Memorial Day services 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 29.

The ceremony will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Monument located near the north section of Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

This year’s guest speaker will be Sgt. Maj. Dean Reicks with the U.S. Army Reserve. SGM Reicks taught and coached at McCook Public Schools before working full-time with the military.

While June 20 this year marks the first day of summer, Memorial Day has long been the holiday more eagerly associated with the start of the season. Memorial Day is the time to recount the sacrifice of all America’s warriors, honor the memory of America’s fighting men and women who died defending our nation and honor our family heritage.

The observance usually includes the decoration of veteran’s and family graves, and in fact was originally known as “Decoration Day.”

The public is encouraged to attend this brief yet honorable Memorial Day service.

  • Welcome back home Dean. Thanks for your service and the service of all men and women in uniform.
