ARAPAHOE, Neb. — Charles E. DeVries, 72, of Arapahoe, died Wednesday (March 29, 2017), at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Neb.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1944, south of Arapahoe to Tobias and Elsie (Hein) DeVries. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1963. He married Diane R. Haussler in September 1962 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church of rural Holbrook, Neb. They lived in Arapahoe where he farmed. He worked at Landmark John Deere Implement at Arapahoe for the past 27 years.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diane; brothers Carl, Jack and Wayne DeVries; sister, Phyllis Alexander; brothers-in-law, Raymond Bockerman, Stan Alexander, Richard Frogge and Harry Wilson; sister-in-law, Marilyn DeVries; and granddaughter, Gracie DeVries.
Survivors include children, Kurt and wife, Lisa DeVries of Arapahoe, Tim and wife, Kathy DeVries of Holbrook, Joel and wife, Michelle DeVries of Kearney, Neb., Matt DeVries of Lincoln, Neb., Suzanne and husband, Max Swantek of Grand Island, Neb., and Shayna and husband, Daniel Brabec of Wahoo, Neb.; brothers, Bud and wife, Gwen DeVries of Arapahoe, Leonard and wife, Wyona DeVries of Inland, Neb., Glenn and wife, Jo DeVries of Trumbull, Neb., and Harold and wife, Kathy DeVries of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters, Mary Bockerman of Arapahoe, Elsie Mae Frogge of Grand Island, and Dorothy Wilson of Inland; mother-in-law, Eleanora Haussler of Arapahoe; sister-in-law, Audre DeVries of Cambridge, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; and special friend, Peg Schelling.
Services are Monday, April 3, 2017, 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with Rev. James Moshier officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Condolences or personal reflections may be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com. There will be no viewing or visitation as cremation was chosen.
Memorials will be designated at a later date. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe is in charge of the arrangements.
