County commissioners discuss summer culvert, armor coating projects

Monday, March 27, 2017

McCOOK, Neb. — Red Willow County commissioners and county roads superintendent Gary Dicenta talked about summer armor coating projects during the commissioners’ weekly meeting this morning.

Commissioners discussed armor-coating about six miles of the Lebanon-Bartley road and/or two miles of the Marion/Danbury Cemetery road. Commissioner Steve Downer said the Lebanon-Bartley road is highly traveled, and has required quite a bit of patching. The south 2 1/2 miles of the road were armor-coated in 2009; the north 5 1/2 miles were done in 2016. The surface of the middle six miles was reconstructed in 2006.

Thinking of the cost of armor-coating, commissioners were mindful that they plan to replace a bridge east of Lebanon on Drive 707 with a box culvert, and will open bids on that project on Monday, April 24.

The earlier commissioners can make decisions about armor coating, the better the chance of locking in lower oil prices, Dicenta said. Commissioners will discuss the armor coating again on Monday, April 10, at 10 a.m.
