McCOOK, Neb -- Edward Thomas McArthur, age 86, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Community Hospital of McCook.

On Jan. 15, 1931, Edward was born in Riverview, Pa., to parents Edward and Beatrice (Griffiths) McArthur.

Edward proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Betty J. Hite on Jan. 21, 1960, while stationed in Seattle, Wash.

Following 20 years of honorable service to his country, Edward retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1966. Moving to Stratton, Neb., in 1974, Edward settled into retirement with the love of his life, Betty. Fishing in the area lakes and spending time with his cats were some of Edward's favorite pastimes.

Edward is survived by his wife, Betty of the home in Stratton; as well as his adopted family, Joel and Ronnie Richardson also of Stratton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Edith.

Private memorial services will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Neb., at a later date.
