Tiger, Trojan girls punch tickets to state hoops
The undefeated Dundy County-Stratton Tigers and Cambridge Trojans both won girls district championships on Saturday to clinch their trips to this week's Nebraska State Basketball Tournament.
Dundy-County Stratton (25-0) defeated Morrill, 71-28, at Paxton and move into Thursday's D-1 tourney where they have earned a No. 2 seed. Sophomore Grayce Frederick's 14 points paced the balanced DC-S attack.
The Tigers meet No. 7 Pender (18-8) in a 2 p.m. quarterfinal at Lilcon Southwest High School.
Meanwhile, the Cambridge Trojans captured their 20th win this season (20-3) with a 50-45 win over Hemingford behind senior Alea Shaner's 25 points.
Cambridge will be seeded sixth entering a C-2 state opener against N0. 3 Howells-Dodge (22-3) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Lincoln North Star High School.
