Leanna Mae Young
Sept. 22, 1928 - Nov. 16, 2016
McCOOK, Neb. -- Leanna Mae Young, age 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Nov. 16, 2016. She died at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
Leanna was born Sept. 22, 1928, at Campbell, Neb., to Frederick and Mollie (Thaut) Trebold. When she was eight years old, she moved with her family to Chambers, Neb. At eight years old, she started working for her room and board so she could go to school in town. Her parents lived on a ranch six miles from town so she could only go home on weekends.
She met Francis Young when she was 16 and they were married Sept. 27, 1947, when they both turned 19. To this union one daughter, Eileen Kay, was born. Their first home was on the Lemmers ranch at Atkinson, Neb. It was 25 miles from town. They endured the winter of '48-'49 and were snow bound for four months. The National Guard air lifted groceries to them. They had 700 head of cattle to care for and they had a total of 140" of snow.
After enduring that winter, they moved to Kearney, Neb., in 1949. They owned and operated the Rodeo Motel and Trailer Court for five years. They then had Young's Crane Service for 30 years, where she was the bookkeeper. In 1994, they retired and moved to Carthage, Mo. In 2004, they moved to McCook to be close to their daughter and family.
She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior in 1951 and had been involved in the Lord's work until poor health limited her activities. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church.
After Francis died in 2008, she moved into Highland Park and lived there until March 2016, when she moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Francis in 2008; her parents; her sister, Ruby Myers; sisters-in-law, Darlene Hoerle, and Flossie Laverne Hansen; brothers-in-law, Harold Dean Young and Richard Young.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and George Young of McCook; three grandchildren and spouses, Greg and special friend, Genelyn McGuire of Lincoln, Angela and Jason Downs of Lincoln, Kyle and Amanda Young of Rapid City, S.D.; and great-grandchildren, Michael Young, Seth Downs, Kane Young and Althea Esteller.
Memorials may be given in her name to Gideon's International.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Kearney, Neb., cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Evangelical Free Church.
