Tennis wins home invite

McCOOK, Neb. - The McCook tennis team capped off a successful weekend for Bison athletics by winning their own invite on Saturday at Bison Tennis Courts.
The Bison finished the McCook Invite with 38 points, which was good enough for first place. Holdrege and Scottsbluff were close runners-up with 35 and 34 points, respectively.
McCook head coach Matt Wiemers said it was a great team performance at Saturday's home invite.
Individually, McCook won three events on Saturday. Spencer Krysl went 4-0 to claim first place in no. 1 singles, while teammate Sam Knoll went 4-0 to win no. 2 singles. Syd Wier and Andrew Graff paired up to win no. 3 doubles.
Zion Moyer and Caden Bortner had to settle for second place in no. 2 doubles, despite a close 9-8 (9-7 tiebreaker) loss to the winning no. 2 doubles team from Scottsbluff.
McCook's no. 1 doubles team of Josiah Hegwood and Von Fritsche went 1-3, with their lone win coming against Gering.
Also in action for McCook was Joel Gray, Teagan Sitzman, Kenny Farr and Matthew Searcey. Gray/Sitzman and Farr/Searcey competed as no. 3 doubles teams. Gray/Sitzman went 2-2, while Farr/Searcey went 1-3.
