HAYES CENTER, Neb. -- Dorothy M. Callander, age 93, of Hayes Center, passed away on Aug. 18, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Arapahoe, Neb.

Dorothy was born on Feb. 22, 1923, to parents Grant O. and Anna Belle (Williams) Patterson in Callaway, Neb. She was one of eight siblings.

Dorothy married Glenn Callander on May 22, 1949. To this union four sons were born, Grant, Archie, Fred, and Calvin.

Dorothy was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Hayes Center, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Dorothy loved being a homemaker and enjoyed spending time gardening.

Survivors include her sons, Archie (Sharon) Callander of Newcastle, Wyo., Fred (Carla) Callander of Bartley, Neb., and Calvin (Teri) Callander of Hendley, Neb.; her five grandchildren, Troy Callander, Kandra Blodgett, Kyla Jueden, Kyann Knight and Waylan Callander; as well as her six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Anna Patterson; her son, Grant Callander; her five brothers, Kenneth, Floyd, Ralph, Emery and Ervin Patterson; and her two sisters, Gladys Patterson and Mae Lloyd.

Visitation will be on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Dorothy's family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at Bethel Baptist Church in Hayes Center with Pastor Ted Burnfield and Pastor Keith Theobald officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Hayes Center Cemetery.
