From the McCook Democrat 1886 -- 130 years ago! Married at the Catholic Church, McCook, Nebraska, Sunday January 31, 1886, Mr. J.T. McEnvoy to Miss Amy Moore, both of Stratton, the Rev. Thomas Cullen officiating.
Died in a snow slide: News reached us from Danbury that Mr. S.S. Graham started for Ouray, Colorado last Wednesday night in response to a telegram to the effect that his son, Frank Graham had been killed in a snow slide at the latter place. But little can be gleaned regarding the facts of his death, further than that with a party of chums he was camped, for the winter in a cabin in the mountains, and that the immense amount of snow which has fallen during the winter in the mountains, caused a most terrific slide destroying the whole party.
Published in the McCook Republican 1896 -- 120 years ago! Williams-Bentley-The first marriage ceremony fully performed in the new County Seat of Red Willow County took place last Saturday, May 2, 1896 at 2 p.m. at the residence of C. O. Ballew. The contracting parties were Miss Lilly Williams and H.H. Bentley, both of Bartley, Rev. J.A. Badcon officiating.
Sad death last Tuesday night Mrs. Charles Arnold died at her home in South McCook of pneumonia. Mrs. Arnold had recovered from an illness of six weeks, of typhoid fever, sufficiently to walk when taken down with pneumonia. She was 30 years of age. She leaves a husband and eight children to mourn her demise.
Extracted from the 1906 McCook Republican newspapers -- 110 ten years ago! Married at the home of Will Harmon in West McCook, Monday night at 8 o'clock, John Hunt and Miss Jennie Goodenberger, both of Marion, Nebraska, Rev. M.B. Carman officiating. The young couple took No. 12 (train) Tuesday morning for their new home in Alberta, Canada.
Old settler dies-J.E. Dolph, who underwent what was deemed a successful operation Wednesday of last week, suffered a relapse and passed away Thursday evening. His funeral held Saturday at 1 p.m. was perhaps the largest ever witnessed in that section. Mr. Dolph has been a resident of the county, living on his farm one miles west of Danbury for thirty-four years, having been one of the pioneer settlers. A wife and twelve children survive him.
The McCook Tribune from 1916 -- 100 years ago! Heskett-Hammel Wedding- A very quiet but impressive wedding occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Heskett, Wednesday evening, when their daughter Bertha was united in marriage with Bert M. Hammel. Mr. and Mrs. Hammel will make their home on a farm one and a half miles north of McCook.
Death of Mrs. Koetter. Friends of Barney Koetter were deeply pained and shocked, Saturday morning, to learn of the death of Mrs. Koetter, at a very early hour, that morning, of heart trouble, after a brief illness. The departed is survived by the husband and seven children.
